Policies Regarding Exhibits

  1. Exhibits MUST be entered Friday, September 12, 2008 from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. OR Saturday, September 13, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.  LIVESTOCK MUST BE BROUGHT  IN ON MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 15, 2008 FROM 7:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.  NO EXCEPTIONS!!
  2. All educational exhibits MUST be removed between 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 21, 2008.  Any exhibit not picked up by 4:00 p.m. will be left at the fairgrounds and becomes the sole responsibility of the exhibitor.  Livestock MUST be removed by 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 18, 2008.  NO EXCEPTIONS!!
  3. Fair officials observe the right to refuse the entry of any unworthy exhibit.
  4. Pens for livestock must be reserved by calling the Cooperative Extension office at 527-2191.  All horses must have Coggins papers before they can be unloaded.
  5. Reasonable space will be allowed to all exhibitors up to the capacity of the exhibit space.  Fair officials reserve the right to refuse additional entries.
  6. Exhibits will be judged on Monday, September 15, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
  7. Judges will be instructed to disqualify articles entered under the wrong class or of poor quality.  The decision of the judges will be final.
  8. Fair officials will withhold premiums in any case where it appears that fraud or deception has been attempted or where rules have not been observed.
  9. An exhibitor cannot make more than one entry in each class.
  10. All entries need to have been grown, prepared or made since the 2007 Lenoir County Fair.  (You may NOT enter items entered last year!)
  11. All exhibits (including livestock) must be delivered to the fairgrounds.  No charge for transportation or freight will be paid for by the Lenoir County Fair Association, Inc.
  12. The same articles or entry cannot compete for two or more premium awards.
  13. The management will not be responsible for loss, injury, theft or damage by fire, lightning, wind, etc to any animal or article.
  14. Exhibits cannot be removed until the designated time unless approved by fair officials or premiums will be forfeited.
  15. Special rules have priority over general rules and will be stated under the department.
  16. All exhibits will be judged on a merit basis within each class and premiums will be awarded as shown in each department.

1.     All plants and flowers must be grown by the exhibitor and must be meritorious or premiums will be withheld.  Pot plant entries must have been grown by exhibitors for at least three months prior to the fair.

2.     Judging of entries will take place Monday, September 15, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

3.     Containers for horticultural exhibits will be furnished by exhibitor (use tall soft drink or milk bottles – NO CANS PLEASE!)

4.     Exhibitors are encouraged to have horticultural specimens named correctly for entry.

5.     Nothing artificial will be permitted.  Dried or treated materials will be permitted where specified.

6.     Artificial polished plant material will be disqualified.

7.     A Master Gardener member will be responsible for maintaining the appearance of flowers during fair week.

8.     All exhibits must be picked up between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 21, 2008.

9.     All potted plants must have a saucer underneath the pot.

 
Department B – Culinary

1.     Entries must be on sturdy, disposable plates or saucers in plastic zip-top bags.

2.     Accurate recipes should be included with all entries (except decorated cakes).  These should be taped to the bottom of the plate.

3.     Recipes may be published unless otherwise requested.

DIVISION IV – FAMILY AND CONSUMER
Director – Trudy Pickett

1.     Use standard canning jars only, none smaller than ½ pint.

2.     Fruits and tomatoes should be processed in boiling water bath or pressure canner.  Low acid vegetables must be processed in steam pressure canner.

3.     Canning guidelines from current editions of the following sources are recommended:

a.     Canning in North Carolina

b.     Putting Food By

c.      USDA’s Complete Guide to Home Cooking

d.     Ball Blue Book

e.      Kerr Home Canning

f.       Other sources must be approved by the Directors

4.     All entries must be labeled as to CONTENT, PROCESSING METHOD AND PROCESSING TIME.  Label should be taped to back of jar at bottom.  Example:  Green Beans  Pressure Canner   25 Minutes

5.     Jellies, pickles and relishes may be opened for tasting.

6.     Do not use paraffin.

7.     ENTRIES MUST HAVE BEEN CANNED BETWEEN OCTOBER 2007 AND SEPTEMBER 2008.

8.     “Any Other” categories are only for items not listed in preceding categories and not for duplications.

Department H – Antiques
Director – Lina Gibbs  

1.     Entries must be 50 years old or older and must have been owned by the exhibitor for at least 6 months.

2.     Each item may be entered only once each five years.

3.     The Lenoir County Fair Association, Inc. is NOT responsible for loss, theft or damage.
