Policies Regarding Exhibits

I Livestock Department
A Horses

V Youth Department C Plants and Flowers 1.
All plants and
flowers must be grown by the exhibitor and must be meritorious
or premiums will be withheld.
Pot plant entries must have been grown by exhibitors for
at least three months prior to the fair. 2.
Judging of entries
will take place Monday, September 15, 2008 from 9:00 a.m.
12:00 p.m. 3.
Containers for
horticultural exhibits will be furnished by exhibitor (use tall
soft drink or milk bottles NO CANS PLEASE!) 4.
Exhibitors are
encouraged to have horticultural specimens named correctly for
entry. 5.
Nothing artificial
will be permitted. Dried
or treated materials will be permitted where specified. 6.
Artificial polished
plant material will be disqualified. 7.
A Master Gardener
member will be responsible for maintaining the appearance of
flowers during fair week. 8.
All exhibits must
be picked up between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Sunday,
September 21, 2008. 9.
All potted plants
must have a saucer underneath the pot.
1.
Entries must be on
sturdy, disposable plates or saucers in plastic zip-top bags. 2.
Accurate recipes
should be included with all entries (except decorated cakes). These
should be taped to the bottom of the plate. 3.
Recipes may be
published unless otherwise requested. Score

Use standard
canning jars only, none smaller than ½ pint. 2.
Fruits and tomatoes
should be processed in boiling water bath or pressure canner.
Low acid vegetables must be processed in steam pressure
canner. 3.

Other sources must
be approved by the Directors 4.
All entries must be
labeled as to CONTENT, PROCESSING METHOD AND PROCESSING TIME.
Label should be taped to back of jar at bottom.

Jellies, pickles
and relishes may be opened for tasting. 6.
Do not use
paraffin. 7.
ENTRIES MUST HAVE
BEEN CANNED BETWEEN OCTOBER 2007 AND SEPTEMBER 2008. 8.
Any Other
categories are only for items not listed in preceding categories
and not for duplications.

Entries must be 50
years old or older and must have been owned by the exhibitor for
at least 6 months. 2.
Each item may be
entered only once each five years. 3.
The Lenoir County
Fair Association, Inc. is NOT responsible for loss, theft or
damage.
